The 5th Africa LPG Summit canceled due to visa issues, replaced with a-day workshop
The biggest LPG summit in Africa organized by All Events Group in conjunction with World LPG Association, WLPGA, its Nigerian affiliate NLPGA and local agencies, the 5th Africa LPG Summit, scheduled for June 19 and 20, has been canceled.
In a communiqué sent to media and stakeholders by Vincent Choy, the Director, LPG Summit, and also made available on the event website, he expressed that “due to logistics issues relating to the issuance of visas for the majority of the foreign guests including the organizers, we are unable to travel and will not get to Nigeria in time for the scheduled summit.”
An authoritative source, however, explained to Exhibitorslive that they were advised to apply for Visa-on-Arrivals for the participants of the event, “but unfortunately, despite several weeks of lead-time, payments and constant daily follow-ups, we are unable to secure Visas for majority of the participants which has led us to this unfortunate circumstance.”
“We cannot express how disappointed we are with the current situation and would like you to know that we are truly sorry for this tragedy”, the source went further.
It is baffling how an event of this magnitude would not be given priority for visa issuance by the NIS (Nigerian Immigration Service), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other ministries, agencies and parastatals saddled with attracting foreign investments into the country.
You may wish to note that the 5th Africa LPG Summit has notable office holders from Presidency to Ministry of Petroleum as keynote speakers among who are Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, Honorable Minister of State, MINISTRY OF PETROLEUM RESOURCES and Dayo Adeshina, Program Manager, LPG Expansion Implementation Plan, OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT.
The Eid-l-Firti holidays made it impossible for us to contact relevant government agencies and get their comments or side of the development.
However, World LPG Association, WLPGA, was swift to step in together with the NLPGA to offer an immediate solution.
On Tuesday, 19 June 2018, WLPGA will be conducting a one-day technical workshop with the local and regional speakers on the opportunities and challenges of LPG development in Nigeria.
New dates for the 5th Africa LPG Summit will be communicated as soon as possible. And Exhibitorslive shall be on-hand to inform you.
See you at the workshop on Tuesday 19 June at Eko Hotels by 9am.
