Retail Sourcing West Africa 2019 brings China Brand Show to Nigeria from 12 to 14 November at Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos State
The year’s edition of Retail Sourcing West Africa 2019 promises to be big and replete with lots of opportunities for Nigerian and West African business-chain stakeholders as it hosts the popular China Brand Show and more. Little wonders it is being put together by three giants in the trade events industry in Nigeria: Atlantic Exhibitions, Meridyen Fairs and Leoht Africa.
This revelation was part of the highlights of a press and stakeholder conference held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja on Thursday 17th November, 2019 as part of the activities to sensitize the business communities and general public.
Given the calibre of the audience at the press conference, one would be left with no doubt that the main event, Retail Sourcing West Africa 2019, should definitely beat all expectation.

The press conference which was anchored by MC OTB of Naija 102.5 FM had in attendance crème de la crème of the society including Mr. R. A Erebobo, representing the Honourable Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Lagos State, Mr Emeka Ofor, the Director of Strategic Communication, Nigeria Investment Commission, Mr Ambrose Uche, the Director of Corporate Affairs representing the Director General of MAN (Manufacturers Associations of Nigeria), Mrs Funmi Ladipo, the President of FADAN (Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria), Babaloja and Iyaloja’s and many other high dignitaries.
In her welcome address, the Marketing Manager of Leoht Africa, Miss Tonia Odili welcomed the guests and stated that their goal was to promote the nation’s retailers to the top manufacturers and create a strong relationship through source matters, save cost, and connect ready retailers to their suppliers. She went further to introduce other stakeholders and co-organizers who have been in support of the vision behind the event.
The MD of Atlantic Exhibition (one of the co-organizers), Mr Paul Ayo Olugbade, could not contain his excitement at the turn out and the class of people in attendance, stating that it was indeed a great honour for him to host the press conference. In his words, Atlantic Exhibitions was partnering with Leoht Africa and Meridyen fair to bring together Retail Sourcing Fair as a trade-only fair, focusing exclusively on retail and commercial products for the home, office, gift and Textile sectors.
Mr Paul stated that the Retail Sourcing Fair is a platform that will connect local distributors and retailers across West Africa, offering exposure on an unprecedented scale. It is the most cost-effective way to access the African marketplace.
Other highlights of the press conference included a video presentation to throw more light on the plans and expectations towards the exhibition. The video clip displayed Chinese manufacturers who, through the Ministry of Commerce, China, will be participating in the event and are willing to collaborate with ready Nigeria distributors/retailers to establish a strong partnership within the African market.
Also addressing the audience, Mrs Bunmi Aliyu, the Project Director for Retail Sourcing West Africa and the MD, Meridyen Fair briefed the audience on the importance of building strong supply chain between the sub-Sahara Africa which Nigeria is among and its value to the nation’s economy.
Mrs Bunmi stated that Meridyen Fair is an international consulting firm who believed in the growth of the retailers and manufacturer influencing the national GDP. She stated that their mission is simple, which is to provide routes for retailers to meet with top manufacturers and negotiate business. Stating further that Meridyen Fair is one of the leading consultation firms in the exhibition industry which has given them an edge and access to international bodies and government supporting them in the organization of exhibitions within the sub-Saharan Africa.
Mrs Bunmi stated that over the years, they have successfully collaborated to increase trade promotion index across the globe especially sub-Saharan Africa and this has helped them to build and establish strong business partners between manufacturers and African retailers. She stated that they have monitored the dependent growth within the sub-Saharan Africa in the retail sector which Nigeria is recognized by the global retail index as the largest retail market in West Africa with retail sales of over $180,000,000 in 2018 and that Retail Sourcing West Africa fair is one of a kind among fairs focusing on establishing the presence of manufacturers in key markets in the continent as they did in over 12 countries and expected over 400 manufacturers and 3,000 trade visitors from both public and private sectors coming.
Questions and answers session was later held to assist the audience in clearing some doubts within and addressing any issue found.
Businessmen/women and enthusiasts are encouraged to attend the fair as products from multiple sectors (fashion industry, craft, ceramics, interiors, machinery, equipment, textile, building and construction, spare parts etc) would be available for various stages of sourcing.
Miss Tonia Odili of Leoht Africa (one of the organising partners) in her closing remarks encouraged Nigerian retailers to attend the event and take advantage of abundant business opportunities it offers.
